Each conference will have a theme identified by the applicant and agreed upon by the WCCSC.
· The conference will occur annually, ideally alternating between the Americas and Eurasia.
· The conference location will be associated with an historic canal(s) of importance and of interest to conference delegates.
· The conference location will be accessible to most potential delegates.
· The conference cost will be affordable to most potential delegates.
· All costs for the conference is the responsibility of the conference host.
Written proposals should be limited to two well-organized pages using the standard pro-forma application form (See attached) and including the following information.
· The host canal, organization and other participants
· The location of the proposed conference
· The dates of the proposed conference
· The theme of the proposed conference
· Other considerations, such as links to special events/anniversaries
Additional material such as informational pamphlets, photographs, maps, etc., that further explore the resources and merit of the proposed site are welcome. When possible please forward, to the address below, six copies of these materials for distribution to the Site Selection Working Group .
· Cut-off date for proposals for the 2011 conference is the first of August 2008. The working group will review and forward a summary report including their recommendations to World Canal Conference Steering Committee before their meeting at the current year’s conference.
· Selection of the site to host the World Canal Conference three years hence will be made by the WCCSC when they meet at the current year’s conference (e.g.. the conference site for 2011 will be chosen at the 2008 conference.)

Upon selection, the World Canals Conference Steering Committee agrees to work with future hosts, providing delegate lists, banners, graphic designs, program ideas and other assistance that may be requested.
The World Canals Conference Steering Committee assumes no responsibility for any debts incurred or claims against the host/organizing committee of the particular event, as we are only an advisory group loosely established to ensure the continuance of the World Canals Conference.
